In Crete, there is a tradition of burring in the earth, barrels of Marouvas wine – the beloved, age-old wine of Crete, the day a child is born, symbolizing growth, heritage, and the deep connection between the Cretan people and their land. This barrel, hidden beneath the soil, lies in wait for years, gradually transforming into a unique, deeply flavorful wine.
It is unearthed and opened only on a momentous occasion, such as a coming-of-age celebration or even the child’s wedding and the barrel is finally , unleashing memories, history, and a flavor matured with time.
The name SPOROS comes from the Greek word for seed, same as the barrels we plant as seeds but also it’s a cute informal nickname for small children.
The SPOROS bottle embodies this very tradition. Its sleek black form mirrors the mystery and elegance of the wine within, while the logo, crafted in ancient Greek-inspired lettering, symbolizes the roots of Cretan culture. The logo is made from the textured, earthy appearance of dirt – reminiscent of the soil in which the barrels of Marouvas rest – blending history and nature into a minimalistic, powerful design.
The bottle is buried like it’s barrel, in the packaging with the same soil the barrel was in but with the addition of some of the same wine to give the box the unique aromas even without opening the bottle.
